Member Bonuses let you pay extra check-in points to a specific group of fans — the ones who follow a topic, sit at a membership level, or carry a member tag — without changing what the event itself is worth.
Point Earning › Member Bonuses
https://app.fanmaker.com/admin/engagement/member_bonuses
Every program has this page. It stays completely inert until you create your first rule, so nothing about how your fans earn changes until you decide it should.
A bonus rule looks at every check-in. When the fan matches it, the rule adds extra points on top of the event's base check-in points, in the same moment the base points are awarded — so the fan's check-in confirmation already includes them.
Two things are worth knowing before you build anything:
A bonus is always calculated from the event's base check-in points. Early-arrival, stay-late, and scan bonuses are never multiplied.
A fan earns a given rule at most once per attendance record. A second scan at the same event doesn't pay it again.
The fan sees the rule's Fan-facing text on the check-in confirmation, right next to the bonus points, and it stays on their points history. Name it like the campaign, not like a database field.
Each rule matches on exactly one of three things. You pick it with the Who earns it radio buttons.
Pick one of your program's configured topics. Both halves have to be true for the bonus to pay: the fan follows that topic and the event is tagged with it.
If a topic is later retired from your program, any rule pointing at it stays visible on this page but quietly stops paying. Delete or repoint the rule when you retire a topic.
Pick a level from the dropdown. The fan's level is checked at the moment of each check-in, so someone who joins the level later starts earning from their next check-in on. Nothing is backdated.
Pick one of the tags your program has put on members — the same pool the Members filter uses. Like membership level, it's checked at the moment of each check-in.
Under Bonus, pick one of two shapes.
Enter a Multiplier. It has to be above 1 — a 1x rule would award nothing, so the admin won't save it. A multiplier of 2 doubles the base points, meaning a 100-point event pays 100 extra.
Because the bonus is built from the base points, an event worth 0 base points pays nothing under a multiplier rule.
Enter a whole number in Extra points. It's added at every qualifying check-in regardless of what the event is worth — including events worth 0 base points.
This is the part that surprises people, so it's worth reading twice.
When a fan matches more than one rule, each rule works out its own bonus from the same base points, and those bonuses are added together. The rules do not multiply each other.
Say an event is worth 100 base check-in points, and you have two rules running:
Season Ticket Holder Bonus — 2x, for fans at your Season Ticket membership level
Football Faithful — 3x, for fans following the Football topic
Here's what fans actually earn:
A fan who matches only the first rule: 100 base + 100 bonus = 200 points
A fan who matches only the second rule: 100 base + 200 bonus = 300 points
A fan who matches both: 100 base + 100 + 200 = 400 points
That third fan earned 4x, not 6x. The 2x contributed one extra helping of the base points, the 3x contributed two, and they simply added up.
Flat rules join the same pile. Add a +50 Student Section rule to the example above and a fan matching all three earns 450 points.
Go to Point Earning › Member Bonuses and select New Bonus Rule.
Enter a Name. This is your internal label — fans never see it.
Enter the Fan-facing text. This is what appears on the check-in confirmation and points history, so write it for fans.
Under Who earns it, pick a criteria type and fill in the topic, membership level, or member tag it needs.
Under Bonus, pick a multiplier or flat points and enter the amount.
Optionally set Starts and Ends — see below.
Leave Enabled checked, and select Create Bonus Rule.
The rule appears in the list right away and starts applying at the next qualifying check-in.
Starts and Ends are both optional.
Leave Starts blank and the rule is active immediately.
Leave Ends blank and it never expires.
Set both and the end has to come after the start.
Outside its window, a rule matches nothing. Bonuses awarded while the window was open are never taken back.
The table gives you one row per rule:
Rule — your internal name
Who earns it — the criteria in plain language, for example "Follows topic: Football" or "Membership level: Gold"
Bonus — for example "2x points" or "+100 points"
Fan-facing text — what fans see
Window — "Always" when there's no schedule, otherwise the dates
Status — Enabled or Disabled
Use the Actions menu at the end of a row.
Edit opens the same form you used to create the rule. Changes take effect at the next qualifying check-in; they don't reach back and change points already awarded.
To pause a rule without losing it, edit it and uncheck Enabled. It stays on the list, marked Disabled, and stops paying.
Delete removes it for good. Fans stop earning it immediately, and bonus points already awarded are kept.
Nobody is earning my topic rule. Check that the events are tagged with the same topic. The fan following the topic is only half the match.
A fan hit two rules but the points look low. They're probably not low — see How rules stack above. Two multipliers add, they don't compound.
A rule pays nothing on a particular event. If the event's base check-in points are 0, a multiplier rule has nothing to multiply. Use a flat points rule if you want it to pay on those events too.
The bonus didn't appear on a re-scan. Each rule pays once per attendance record. That's working as intended.
